GEL TRANSFER SERIES

To achieve juxtaposition and a strong atmospheric effect in this series, Devon combines the digital process of High Dynamic Range photography with the hands on process of Gel Transfers.

High Dynamic Range photography is achieved by overlapping multiple photos of different exposures to achieve a fine balance between the brightest of highlights and the darkest of shadows. The result is a hyper-real depiction of the subject matter with very little detail left unseen.

A gel transfer is created by immersing the printed image into a clear acrylic medium. Once dry, the paper backing of the photo is soaked and scrubbed off, leaving the image behind on the surface. Gel transfers can besomewhat of a fickle beast and as such will never come out the same with each transfer, allowing the final image to be one of a kind.
